Andros island
Andros Island in Greece is a green one and offers really nice beaches, pretty villages and a relaxed atmosphere for your vacation.
According to mythology, Andros was a grandson of Apollo and general under the Cretan king Rhadamanthus.
Because he had served the king well, he was given this island.
Because it is close to the harbour of Piraeus, it is a very popular weekend destination for the Athenians and not only.
It has many beauties and charms.
The island is also a place of culture with its many museums.
Andros has all kind of beaches: organized or not, remote or popular, accessed by car or boat.
The most popular beaches include Agios Petros, Batis and Kipri, on the western side of the island,
while Ormos on the eastern side is popular with windsurfing and other watersports.
Ormos beach is the longest, approximately 100 meters long beach, and one of the most beautiful since it has thin sand and crystal clear waters.
Chora Beach is a long sandy beach of Paraporti and also a nice place to enjoy a refreshing swim.
Near Chora Beach Andros is a long stretch of sandy beach and thus a paradise for visitors.
Batis Beach is a rural beach within a site of 70.000 sqm which also includes a camping area.
Kypri Beach is a small sandy beach, organized with tourism facilities.
There are also some hotels in the Kypri region and nice taverns.
Agios Petros is one of the most famous beaches of Andros, because it has a long, sandy coastline and crystal waters.
Andros is a perfect island not only for walkers but also for people who like to swim, snorkel, fish and sail.
Every summer sailing races are organised and there are countless wonderful beaches for windsurfing on the island.
The coastline of Andros is particularly rugged creating many small, picturesque bays, which mostly have good sandy beaches.
Some of the largest bays on the island which are worth mentioning are Gavrio, Batsi, Hora and Korthion, all of which have organised harbours.
Four small rivers cross the island from west to east.
These rivers are the beauties of Andros.
Unlike many Greek islands, they flow all year round fed by the mountain peaks.
